Double Glazing
& Damage Control

While windows and doors are invaluable sources of the light and warmth we need for comfort and enjoyment of our homes, in many situations they can also contribute to damage or accelerated ageing of our most prized possessions.

When single pane windows are our only separation from cold outside temperatures, the result can often be moisture (condensation) on the glass. Over time this can give rise to degradation of furnishings, paintwork and window joinery or the formation of moulds or mildew in surrounding areas.

Receiving sunlight through your windows helps to keep your home dry and warm but can also cause damage to your home and possessions.

Even if your primary intention with double glazing is to address heat loss, your double glazing project is an opportunity to also consider other factors which affect you in your home and could be addressed at the same time.

The EverCare range provides solutions for these issues by ensuring that glasses with particular properties are incorporated into your double glazing specification.

Our Solutions For Damage Control

  • The formation of water from condensation or dew is a natural everyday phenomenon. By managing the factors which give rise to this you can take control of the effects that unwanted moisture can have on your home over time.

    There are some basic principles:

    • It is normal for air to contain water vapour.

    • The amount of water vapour that a volume of air can hold is reduced if the air temperature falls.

    • Normally people will feel comfortable with an air temperature around 20 degrees Celsius and 50% relative humidity.

So, under indoor conditions which you would normally consider comfortable, if all that is separating you from cold outdoor conditions is a single pane of glass, then the inside surface of that glass will be much colder than the air in the room. The air will cool significantly and can no longer hold the water associated with comfortable conditions at 20 degrees Celsius – it is released as condensation when the temperature drops below the ‘dew point’.

This process can be influenced either by drying the air to a level which could compromise comfort or by preventing the air from being chilled so that the dew point is is less likely to be reached.

With high performance double glazing (such as SureTemp LE or SureTemp LE plus) the reduction in heat loss will be approximately 80%. Consequently, the internal surface of the glass will be much warmer and air which comes in contact with it will be less likely to be cooled to the dew point so moisture formation will be less frequent and less severe.

Since best control of moisture will result from the warmest glass, EverCare Moisture will be an equivalent specification to SureTemp LE with Argon gas fill which also benefits from space optimisation and use of a foam spacer to minimise formation of moisture.

  • Receiving light and warmth into your home from the sun is beneficial in many ways. However, you will also be very familiar with the damage to furnishings, flooring and paintwork which often also takes place from this.

When solar energy reaches ground level on earth, it comprises around 3% Ultraviolet, 44% Visible and 53% Infrared. Fading is often attributed to UV but it is now considered that around 40% of solar damage results from UV with the balance from other wavelengths.

Eversure SureTemp LE plus provides outstanding control of solar heat by reflecting excess energy away from your home. This glass also reflects away much of the radiation which contributes to fading.

EverCare Solar Max takes this capability further by eliminating 99% of the UV radiation to provide optimal control over fading and other damage from sunlight.
